What People Are Saying:

Ku Testimonial: Kaleinohea and Lanakila create a space both playful and poignant, light and purposeful, deep and accessible. Hearing, learning and uttering the chants connected with Ku was profound and transforming. Class was not solely factual, in the least, but rather a weaving of knowledge of the past with present reality and pertinence. Those few weeks of gathering and diving into the qualities of the living Ku shifted my life trajectory in ways I could not have imagined. The empowering embodiment of Ku, along with the beautiful community gathered, propelled me forward on my personal journey of living greater authenticity and strength in my life. This dynamic teaching duo share the richness of Hawaiian culture in its living form with passion, knowledge, experience and perspectives that enrich our personal and communal lives beyond your expectations! You will plainly just fall in love and never be the same.

Raina

The first time I heard Kalei chant was around a communal lunch circle of keiki, mamas and babies, where she was kneeling at the instant pot, paddling rice into nori as she chanted “Pass the sushi par de left hand side” When I heard her voice, it was like the record player in my head of everything else that was going on just then scratched to a stop. It made me sit up and pay attention because, despite the silly words, there was something very serious about what I could feel in the vibrations of her voice. There was this force and discipline and confidence that, looking back, I think was something I deeply desired in my own life. So. No brainer when I saw she was offering a chant class. I signed up right away. The content of the course was accessible to me as a first time chanter, and was taught with the same mana and joy that I heard in her voice the first time. I loved that she suggested using our voices to interact with and mimic the natural world—the rain, the leaves in the trees, the ocean. It was like getting permission to be my own force of nature. And you know, some of us need permission 😂
